Education
Deacon was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a Viking at Pleasant Grove High School in Utah County. Following coursework at Utah Valley University, Deacon then graduated from the University of Utah in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. At the S.J. Quinney College of Law, he served as senior staff member for the Journal of Law and Family Studies, where his article detailing Utah Domestic Asset Protection Trusts was published. He also spent a semester abroad studying comparative legal procedure at the London Law Consortium.
During law school, Deacon interned with the Honorable Judge Frederic Oddone in the Third District Court. Upon graduation and passing the Utah State Bar in 2004, he was invited to join a boutique asset protection and wealth transfer law firm. He later joined Jones Waldo Holbrook and McDonough and worked to develop the Park City practice continuing to specialize in Trust Administration and probate matters. Deacon is a member of the Utah State Bar, Park City, and Salt Lake County Bar Associations and the Salt Lake Estate Planning Council.
A regular presenter and seminar leader in matters affecting his clients, he is also a certified continuing education instructor. With over 36 hours of additional legal education annually, (200% more than the state requirement), he remains on the cutting edge of planning strategies.
Personal
Deacon has a fairly self-effacing style of humor. He doesn’t take compliments very well, brushing them off generally, but secretly values them a great deal. In his spare time, Deacon loves the legacy and memories he is building with his wife and two children. Deacon enjoys writing about himself in the third person, attending legal education conferences; playing with new technologies and the protection of digital information; repairing anything in his workshop, leadership building events, and recreating in both Summit County and the Wasatch backcountry.
